What it is
Instead of re-reading notes, you close the book and try to retrieve the information from memory — with flashcards, practice questions, or teaching someone else.
Why it works
Each retrieval strengthens the neural pathways to that memory. Struggling to recall — even briefly — makes the memory stick.
How to use it
After reading a chapter, put it away and write down everything you remember. Then check what you missed. Combine with spaced repetition for long-term retention.
